COST
What does is cost?
That is the real question people want to know. In the molding industry, it is the customer’s responsibility to purchase the injection mold. These molds range from about $4,000 to $30,000. Of course, there are many factors that determine the cost, but typically a mold to produce a 6” widget cost $8,000 to $12,000. Because of this high cost, the injection molding process is only used when a large number of parts are needed so the cost of it can be divided out.
Part cost also ranges greatly.
You may expect to pay $0.50 for something the size of a credit card and $2 to $3 for a breadboard. The setup time is extensive when making parts, so the more parts that are ordered, the cheaper the price. We normally recommend customers order 2,500 parts at a minimum. This amount or higher tends to be the most cost effective.
