Injection molding is a manufacturing process used to make the vast majority of the products we use on a daily basis. Whether it is hard plastics, soft plastics, or even metals like aluminum, injection molding is a versatile and cost effective process whenever you need to produce large amounts of parts. No matter if you are making the smallest of parts, like a button cap, or large commercial garbage cans, the manufacturing process is essentially the same. Plastic pellets are fed into a molding machine commonly known as a press. The pellets are heated to a predetermined temperature and pushed under high pressure into the injection mold. The mold has a cavity or void of the part being produced. Once the plastic in the cavity has cooled, the mold opens, the part is removed, and the process is repeated. Molding machines range in size from a picnic table, all the way up to a school bus.
